FABRIC SELECTION
SMI offers a wide selection of Guilford fabrics in their most popular styles and colors. Fabric cards are sorted
by grade. Grade 1 (the most popular and economical series), grade 2 (a higher level of styling and designer
appeal), and grade 3 ( the high end designer series). See the individual color cards for selection. Fabrics
may be used on all panel tiles, poles, and flipper doors.
Some fabrics, due to their physical characteristics, may not be suited to our assembly processes and should
not be used. Approved fabrics other than those listed above may be used subject to additional lead times and
charges. Please consult customer service before specifying other fabrics.
If a customer wishes to use a fabric other than our standard offering or an approved Guilford fabric, they must
ship (prepaid) at least one lineal yard of the sample material to our plant for testing, evaluation, and approval.
If we feel that the material will not perform to our standards, Smi reserves the right to make extra charges or
decline to use the fabric. Once the fabric has been approved, Smi will calculate the quantity required and notify
the customer. Customers Own Material (COM) will be provided by the customer (freight prepaid) and will be
priced based on grade 1 fabric costs. Smi will not be responsible for delays caused by delivery of COMs.

Standard OPEN desk tops are 1 1/8 industrial grade (45 lb. Density) particle board. Top laminates are
Wilsonart 1/32 thick high pressure laminate with a 1/32 phenolic backer to prevent bow and warpage. 3 mm
edge banding is used on all edges. The standard offering is listed below but other styles and colors are available.
Please contact customer service. Some laminates may require a deposit or additional charges. Desk tops are
made on a per order basis due to the many variables in size, laminates, and edge treatment.

VINYL WOODGRAIN LAMINATED STEEL
Woodgrain Laminated steel is available for end, corner, Tee, and step down assemblies (covers and caps).
Vinyl woodgrain steel may also be used on tiles, panel frame tops, flipper doors, pedestal drawer fronts, and
lateral file drawer fronts. Vinyl woodgrain matches the high pressure laminate woodgrains (for work surfaces)
listed above.
