SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Located in the City of Harrisonburg, just west of Interstate 81, the Old Town Historic District is
a medium density, predominately residential neighborhood within the heart of the City of
Harrisonburg. The north boundary of the district is Water Street; the east boundary is defined by
Ott Street except where Franklin Street runs past Ott Street to include the contributing buildings
further east on Franklin Street. The south boundary is defined as the north side of Cantrell
Avenue, and the west boundary is defined as South Main Street, excluding all buildings that
front South Main Street, as they are included in the previously listed Harrisonburg Downtown
Historic District.

The main axes of the district are Franklin Street running east and west and South Mason Street
running north and south. Old Town is comprised of numerous intact examples of Queen Anne,
Colonial Revival, Spanish Revival, Tudor Revival, Craftsman, Cottage, and the American
