Many of EQ6s 100 new features were suggested by the companys
software users, who range from beginning to advanced quilt designers.
Beginners sought an easy way to make quilt labels, instant borders,
and a simple method of creating new blocks without drawing. They
also wanted to turn quilt blocks into layouts to fill with blocks, and to
search for fabrics by color and blocks by skill-level, pattern type, or even
holiday theme.
Advanced designers required more professional tools. These include
customizable drawing tools, and a Text tool for creating patterns from
True Type fonts. They also needed to import fabric scans that would
automatically scale perfectly on the quilt or block, and be able to be
rotated by degrees. Pattern and book authors needed to export their
colored block and quilt designs in the high-resolution files required for book and magazine illustrations.
Some of EQ6s most playful tools were invented by company President and developer Dean Neumann. These include
a Random Recolor tool, resembling a magic wand to change solid fabrics to prints, or change the hue, saturation or
brightness of all colors on the quilt. He also created paintbrushes for painting fabric swatches on the quilt in wavy
or straight lines; circles or squares; fun for coloring one patch and bargello quilts.
In addition to the 20,000 blocks, fabrics, threads, photos, layouts and embroidery pictures included with EQ6, there
are helpful tip-of-the-day notes, 62 videos, and illustrated help files with color pictures and directions. The program
comes with a 304 page User Manual including 6 fun and easy lessons for learning to set up quilts, print, use layers,
and draw your own blocks, written by a company that knows how to write for people who have never used a
computer before. The book also contains step-by-step instructions on working with every tool and feature.
