Why use SmartDraw?

SmartDraw Professional
is a program to draw flowcharts, diagrams, business graphics, and flyers.
Innovative capabilities include: automatic text sizing, conversion of
shapes into tables, forms can have limited or infinite connection points.
This program has the capability to hyperlink forms, gif, and gpg to
documents, web pages or other programs.

The multiple selection
tool is a great time saver, clicking the tool once makes it possible
to select multiple objects continuously. Another powerful tool is the
connector, which automatically connects objects to form a diagram.

It has extensive
symbol library windows in addition to color scheme designs ready to
apply and/or modify.

This program supports
Object Linking and Embedding (OLE). SmartDraw graphics can be inserted
into Microsoft Word documents. Office documents such as Excel worksheets,
Word document, Clipart, and Graphs can be inserted into SmartDraw.

Rulers and Grids and what they do

Rulers and Grids
Commands
Arrange>Use Snaps
View>Show Grid
View>Define Rulers and Grid

Rulers and grids
provide visual guides to the user, can be turn on and off but do not
print. These features help to position forms in the drawing board.

Snaps works in combination
with grids and rulers. When Use Snaps is turn on and the form is rotating, it moves in
little steps, jumps from tick mark to tick mark. When Use Snaps is turned off, the form rotates precisely between
tick marks.

Exercise (3
minutes)

Open a new drawing, File>New>Flow Chart

Turn Use Snaps on, drag and rotate a square

Turn Use Snaps off, drag and rotate a triangle

Creating New Drawings

New Drawings
Command
File>New

A new drawing is
created in the following methods.

every time the SmartDraw
program starts, a pop up window gives the option to create a drawing
selecting New from the File menu
clicking the new drawing
button on the toolbar [first icon in the first row of icons].

The document toolbar is activated when a drawing
is created, can be in a separate window or below the program toolbar.

Type of Drawings

A ToolTip describes
the function of every icon as the cursor stops over each one. The tools
are easily dragged to the drawing window. SmartDraw has templates ready
to use or modify as well.

The most common
business graphics that can be made using SmartDraw are:

Block Diagrams
Cause & Effect (Fishbone
