differentiated from the class Traffic Analyst by the supervisory responsibility and assignment of
traffic problems requiring considerable experience.

Receives,
prioritizes, and assigns data collection and drafting requests, schedules,
supervises work and evaluates performance of drafters and clerks. Conducts various traffic
studies involving accident analysis, construction review, speed limit, signs, traffic signal
warrants,
school zones, blind corner investigations, parking, traffic circulation; striping, etc.
Drives to locations under investigation. Meets with individuals to determine nature of traffic
problem. Gathers field data using radar gun, camera, counter, etc. and obtains necessary
historical data. Compiles and analyzes data using computer and calculator. Draws diagrams.
Makes recommendations for solutions. Writes and presents reports to superiors.

Performs related work as required.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS


Considerable knowledge of the uniform standards for traffic control devices and their
installation as set forth in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Considerable knowledge of modern analytical methods, tools, and reporting practices.

Ability to review large volumes of data and withdraw essential elements for analysis.

Ability to relate to people in a courteous, tactful, and persuasive manner.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain a drivers license.


DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of high school supplemented by college level course work related to
transportation engineering; and considerable is experience in traffic problem, accident, and
intersection analyses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
