INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides an overview of the recyclability and chemical content of the product carriers and
packing materials used in the shipment of Spansion products.
Additional information about efforts to reduce environmental impact of Spansion memory products and
their packing is available in the Sustainability Progress Report at www.amd.com/ehs.
PACKING MATERIALS CONTENT
Details about the recyclability of the product carriers and packing materials used in the shipment of Span-
sion products are provided on page 14-3. A list of the hazardous chemicals not present in packing materials
is found on page 14-4.
Packing materials for Spansion memory products do not contain any intentionally-added lead, cadmium,
hexavalent chromium, or mercury, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), or polybrominated diphenyl ethers
(PBDE). The sum total incidental concentration of these heavy metals does not exceed 100 ppm. Cadmium
is not present in concentrations greater than 5 ppm.

TRAY RECYCLING PROGRAM
Arrangements have been made with select recycling companies for them to accept trays from customers of
Spansion products at no charge . The table on page 14-6 provides a list, per geographical region, of these
recycling companies. Confirmation must be made with the recycling supplier when arranging for ship-
ment.
When packing trays for shipment, the trays should be packed to ensure no damage is incurred. They should
be stacked, uniformly aligned by the chamfered corner of the tray, and secured in bundles wrapped in cush-
ioning materials for protection. (Reuse of the original packing materials is encouraged.) The recycling ven-
dor should be contacted before shipping the trays so they can identify which freight carrier to use.
These companies may also accept other materials for recycling, and customers are encouraged to contact
them for further information.
