What is SatStor?
SatStor is a hybrid out-of-band,
network storage management
appliance. SatStor's goal is to abstract
the entire storage related activities into
the appliance thus making a
heterogeneous SAN environment
appear like a conventional direct
attached environment. It simplifies
storage deployment, administration
and management of a networked
storage environment.
SatStor makes the servers transparent
to storage resources and makes storage
capacity available on-demand without
affecting the business applications. It
frees the servers, switches and disk
arrays from any of the storage
management overheads like
virtualization, backup etc. It provides a
remote administration console to
monitor and allocate storage resources
as needed by a server or application.
SatStor is developed and deployed as a
standalone RedHat Linux embedded
system. SatStor is the outcome of 180
person months of engineering effort
leveraging on the skills and
competencies of a strong technical
team and domain experts in storage
technologies. SatStor showcases
Satyam's capabilities and commitments
to the leading edge enterprise storage
technologies, thus providing the
capability to service fortune 500
clients.

SatStor is the outcome of 180 person months of
engineering effort leveraging on the skills and
competencies of a strong technical team and domain
experts in storage technologies.
Hardware Architecture
The SatStor appliance supports
multiple interface connectivity to
server and storage devices. The
interfaces supported on the server-side
are iSCSI, FCP and parallel SCSI and
10/100 ethernet channel to the
maestro appliance.
To connect to the storage network, it
supports iSCSI and FCP. The appliance
hardware is built around a high-speed
dual processor and uses a Dual Data
Rate (DDR) memory for faster memory
access.
Typical Deployment of SatStor
The figure below shows the typical
deployment of SatStor in an Enterprise
IT scenario:
Benefits of SAN
Management
Eliminates server level dependency
for storage related functions
Enables non-disruptive/incremental
storage deployment into
