All Veri-Series readers manufactured before July 2004 are not UL294 compliant and
are fully compatible with the above listed panels.
Determining if your Veri-Series Reader is UL294 Compliant
If your Veri-Series reader is UL294 compliant, its package and reader label will
indicate Access Control System Units; 14KS near the UL stamp (refer to
Figure 1
). If
so, please continue to the following section.
If your Veri-Series reader is not UL294 compliant, its package and reader label will
indicate I.T.E. 5UA6 E225700 near the UL stamp (refer to
Figure 2
). If so, this
application note does not apply to your reader and you may continue with standard
installation of the product.

Description
This issue is a result of a "Ground Fault" warning indicator present on the Northern
access control panel when the following mandatory connections are made:
1. A direct connection between the Bioscrypt Veri-Series Earth Ground (either
DB15 pigtail Pin 15 or Weidmuller 3-pin Connector, Pin 3) and the Northern
access control panel Earth Ground connection (either Chassis or Terminal
block TB2 Pin 1).
2. A connection between the Bioscrypt Veri-Series Wiegand Ground (either DB15
pigtail Pin 6 or Weidmuller 12-pin Connector, Pin 7) and any of the Northern
access control panel Reader Input ports Ground reference connection (TB1,
TB2, TB3 or TB4).
Recommended Solution

Installation
Based on a cooperative effort between
Honeywell Access Systems and Bioscrypt,
recommendations on ways to eliminate this
warning indicator result in the installation of a
10K Ohm ¼ Watt resistor placed in series with
the Veri-Series Earth Ground (either DB15 pigtail
Pin 15 or Weidmuller 3-pin Connector, Pin 3)
and the Northern access control panel Earth
Ground connection (either Chassis or Terminal
block TB2 Pin 1). This resistor may be mounted
inside the panel housing.
Although each panel (depending on panel
model) supports two or more Veri-Series
readers, only one (1) 10K Ohm ¼ Watt resistor is
required per access control panel. When
installing the 10K Ohm resistor with multiple
readers per panel, it is important that all Veri-
Series Earth Ground nodes be commonly tied
together at which point the resistor may be
installed and terminated at the Northern
access control panel. Please refer to Figure 3.
