RRIES/FUEL BOWSERS- RIGHT HAND DRIVE

SCOPE OF SUPPLY
Tenders are hereby invited from Manufacturers or their Accredited Agents in Sri Lanka or abroad for the
supply of the following item:-

15 Nos. 19800 Litre capacity Brand New (6x4) Three Axle Rigid Type Tank Lorries/Fuel Bowsers - Right
Hand drive.

The tenderer may either supply the completed Tank Lorries/Bowsers ex-works or may have the Tanks
fabricated in Sri Lanka, fully conforming to the Specifications herein. In the latter case, the tenderer shall
be responsible for fabrication and assembly of the Tanks in Sri Lanka in keeping with the given
specifications, so that tenderer will be in a position to provide the warranty mentioned hereto under
Conditions of Tender for the complete Tank Lorry.

1) CHASSIS

(a) The wheel base should be approximately between 5250 m.m. to 6000 m.m.(Front
Axle to RR Axle) and the total length should be adequate to allow a bulk tank of
approximately 7500 m.m. in length and capable of carrying liquid payload of 19800
litres to be mounted.

(b) Maximum Rear overhang should not exceed 50% of the wheel base, and should
conform to Motor Traffic Act of Sri Lanka.

(c) A minimum ground clearance of 250 m.m. at the lowest end of the vehicle chassis.
.


(d) The overall width of the vehicle should not exceed 2500 m.m. and the maximum
height should not exceed 3400 m.m. as per Motor Traffic Act of Sri Lanka.

(e) The chassis should be of the heavy duty construction in keeping with the specified
GVW. It should consist of heavily braced processed steel cross members, reinforced
with the main frame and should be able to bear a product load of 17,000 kgs. of
product load. (Excluding tank weight)

(g) Minimum turning circle diameter shall not exceed 20,000 m.m

(h) Mudguards (or fenders) to be provided, for front and rear, with mud flaps.

(i) The fuel tank of the vehicle should be of 200 litres minimum capacity and should be
provided with a lockable device. The inlet of the fuel tank should be fitted with a
gauze filter with a suitable mesh. The fuel tank should be located in a suitable
location, so that it will not interfere into the pipelines etc. when the 19,800 litre tank
is mounted.

2.
ENGINE

(a) A heavy duty, diesel, inline, either naturally aspirated, or turbo charged water cooled,
four stroke engine, developing power output not less than 225 Kw at rated r.p.m and
1200 N/m at rated rpm.

(b) The air cleaner shall be of the paper element dry type.
.


(c) The vehicle should be suitable to operate at Sea level to an elevation upto 6000 ft.
above Sea level and in ambient temperature of minimum 10 degrees centigrade to a
maximum 40 degrees centigrade.
.


(d) The fuel system shall comprise primary and secondary fuel filters. The fuel injection
pump must be either in-line type or distributor type and should be compatible with
all altitudes.
.



3.
CLUTCH

(a) The clutch of the vehicle shall be of the single dry plate type, hydraulically operated.

(b) The pressure plate shall be of heavy duty type.
.


4.
GEAR BOX

(a) Five or more forward and reverse speed heavy duty gear box with synchromesh at
least from 2
nd
gear and above.

(b) The vehicle when fully loaded should be capable of being driven on a gradient
of 1 in 4.
.




(c) The gear control lever should be of the floor-mounted type.
.




(d) A power take off, with one forward speed shall be provided off the Gear Box. This
output shaft shall be coupled to a suitable pump capable for pumping Kerosene,
Diesel, Aviation or Furnace Oil at a capacity of not less than 450 litres per minute.

5.
FRONT SUSPENSION

(a) Semi-elliptic steel leaf springs with heavy duty telescopic type hydraulic shock
absorbers.

6.
REAR SUSPENSION

(a) Semi-elliptic steel leaf springs to carry heavy loads, and the suspension should be
suitably damped.

7.
FRONT AXLE

(a) Preferably reverse Elliot Forged I beam type.

8.
REAR AXLE

(a) The rear two driving axles shall be of Banjo type fully floating. The axles should be
tandem dual drive.

(b) The differential unit (Final Gear) shall be spiral bevel hypoid gear.

NOTE - The sum of the maximum front & rear axles loading capacity should be
more than the required gross vehicle weight.

9.
STEERING

(a) Steering should be power assisted.
.



10.
BRAKES

(a) The vehicle shall be fitted with fully air operated pneumatic type brakes. The
system shall be of fail safe dual circuit arrangement with independent lines for front
and rear brakes where one line will continue to be operative in the event of the
failure of the other.
.


(b) An emergency, hand/parking brake (Pneumatic) in accordance with the current
regulations of the Sri Lanka Motor Traffic Act shall be provided. The brake should
be pneumatic type. When used for parking all compressed air employed in its
application must on completion of the operation of applying it, be released.
.



(c) The emergency or parking brake be assisted or operated by compressed air and a
reservoir to stock the required air shall be provided.
.



(d) The reservoirs shall be equipped with low pressure alarms which should be capable
of being operated independently.


(e) The braking system shall be of robust type capable of emergency stop.















(f) The audible warning feature should be incorporated to indicate low air pressure, and
to be inoperative when the engine is switched off.
.




(g) The service (foot) brake shall give a braking efficiency of not less than 65% and the
hand brake not less than 25%. Both tests being made with a brake-testing meter on
the unladen vehicle at a speed of 32 Km. /h.
.


(h) The brakes both in service and emergency application shall be free of squeal and
noise.
.






(i) The compressed air system shall have sufficient capacity for the operation of all
auxiliary equipment including braking system, air horns etc.
.





11.
EXHAUST SYSTEM

(a) Completely factory manufactured exhaust system shall be flexibly mounted and
the silencer barrel and manifold should be fixed by a flexible coupling. Exhaust pipe
must be under slung in front of the bowser with a factory fitted spark arrester.

The vehicle should comply to the present emission standards set down by the
Central Environmental Authority and the Commissioner of Motor Traffic in the
Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

(a) The vehicle shall be fitted with one size of tubeless wheels, dual wheels be fitted to
the rear axles. Pressed steel, 22.5 dia. disc type wheels, minimum of 10 studs are
required.

(b) The tyre size required is 11 R 22.5 -16 ply. The tyres shall be tubeless and heavy
duty flaps, the tyre thread pattern shall be suitable for high-way use.

(c) A spare wheel (tubeless) complete with mounting bracket and locking device must
be provided.

13.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

(a) The electrical system shall be earth return and of 24Vsystem.

(b) A heavy duty alternator with a built in voltage regulator should be provided.

(c) The circuit shall be insulated in accordance with an electrical code pertaining to
Petroleum Industry and carried out so as to reduce, any risk or fire with a insulated
chassis earth return.

(d) Head lamps should be of the double beam dip type, with sealed units. A minimum of
50/40 Watts illumination for the head lamp.

(e) Parking lights must be provided in the front and the rear.

(f) Independent rear number plate lamp should be provided.
.






(g) A stop and tail lamp should be on the rear of the vehicle. The stop lamp should be of
higher intensity than the tail lamp.
