PRECAUTIONS:
Before beginning, please be sure that the ignition key is not in vehicle and
vehicle is not running. Insure that automobile is positioned on flat ground
and that the parking brake is applied.
TOOLS NEEDED:
1/8 drive socket wrench with 8mm, 10mm, and 3/8 sockets.
Soldering iron and solder
Heat gun
Wire stripper and cutter
Interior trim fastener removal tool (or flat blade screwdriver)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Under hood, disconnect ground wire from negative battery terminal with 8mm socket
wrench.
2. In trunk area, remove trunk liner materials to expose FPDM(s).
3
3. Attach 8AWG power wire ring terminal to under hood fuse block.
4. Run 8AWG power wire from engine compartment to trunk under interior.
4
5. Connect ring terminal on 8AWG ground wire (clear or black insulation) to FPDM
ground point on chassis.
5
6. Perform final assembly of MDM power connector by inserting pin on 8AWG power
wire into free position in housing.
6
7. Finish assembly of power connector by installing locking clip as shown below:
8. Plug power connector into MDM
7
9. Determine final mounting location for MDM. Bolt down with (4) supplied machine
screws. Requires 3/8 socket wrench.
10. Cut output wires from stock FPDM approximately 3 from connector.
On 99-04 Mustangs, these wires are (BN/PK) and (RD/BK).
On 05-08 Mustangs, these wires are (PK/BK) and (BK).
**NOTE: On Shelby GT500 cars, you must connect MDM to the FPDM which has
the FPM (fuel pump monitor) signal that goes back to the PCM. This can be
identified by the presence of a (WH/RD) wire on the FPDM connector.
11. Solder YELLOW wire of MDM input harness to the FPDM (+) output. This is
(BN/PK) on the 99-04 cars and (PK/BK) on the 05-08 cars. Solder BLACK wire
of MDM input harness to the FPDM (-) output. This is (RD/BK) on the 99-04 cars
and (BK) on the 05-08 cars. Be sure to place heat shrinkable tubing over wire before
soldering.
8
12. Using heat gun, shrink tubing to seal connections. **NOTE: MDM input harness
shown with RED and BLACK wires instead of YELLOW and BLACK wires.
13. Plug MDM input harness into MDM connector labeled FPDM IN.
14. Run MDM output wires from MDM location, through grommet, and out to fuel tank
9
15. Splice ends of MDM output wires and wires on FORE Triple Pump Fuel Hat.
Connect pairs of MDM output wires to pairs of FORE Triple Pump Fuel Hat pump
wires insuring to match RED to RED and BLACK to BLACK. Solder to insure
reliable connection. **NOTE: Remember to install heat shrinkable tubing onto wires
before soldering. Apply heat to shrinkable tubing to seal solder joints.
16. Plug output cables into MDM. **NOTE: If you are only using (2) pumps, DO NOT
plug in three cables to MDM. You dont want to have live power running in floating
cables due to possibilities of short circuit..
17. Double check all wiring to insure that it matches the included wiring diagrams. If all
checks out, reconnect negative terminal of battery.
18. Place key in ignition and turn to the KOEO (key ON engine OFF) position. Insure
that GREEN BATT and KEY ON LEDs are illuminated on MDM and that RED
FAULT LED is NOT illuminated. If this checks okay, you may button up your
installation.
19. Reinstall trunk liner materials.
ADDENDUM FOR USE WITH VOLTAGE BOOSTERS:
The MDM is designed to work with input voltages up to 20VDC. Thus you can use a
voltage booster on the input wiring to the MDM to get even more fuel capacity from your
pump setup. In order to splice in a voltage booster, you should cut the 8AWG input wire
to the MDM within 1 from the MDM and insert the voltage booster in that circuit. The
voltage booster should be grounded at the very same point the MDM is on the chassis.
