Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) is organizing a Seminar on
FaultFinding and Life
AssessmentofPowerTransformers
on2526April2008inassociationwithOMICRON.
Seminarobjectives:
Powertransformersarevitallinksinthepowersystem,startingfromgeneratingstationand
terminatingatconsumerspremisesandyetthetransformersremaintheleastattendedequipment
notwithstandingthefactthattheirfailuresaresignificant.Duetoeverincreasingpressuretoreduce
costs,thepowerindustryisforcedtokeepoldpowertransformersinoperationaslongaspossible.
Withtheadvancingageoftransformers,theregularcheckontheoperatingconditionsbecomes
moreandmoreimportant.Hence,periodicpreventivemaintenancecanbeperformedintimeto
avoidanunexpectedtotalfailure.Consideringtheveryhighstakesinvolved,allconcernedplayersin
thefieldarerequiredtodiscussvariousaspectsofthisissuetobringdownthefailurerateofpower
transformers.Keepingthisinmind,CBIPinassociationwithOMICRONisorganizingaTransformer
DiagnosisSeminaron

Guidelinesforpreparationofpaper
The full text of the paper in MS Word (three copies one original and two photocopies)
alongwith floppy/CD with inbuilt figures, charts, drawings etc. prepared on Standard Bond Paper
(good quality paper) of A4 (210 mm x 297 mm) size should be submitted. After having been
scrutinizedandaccepted,paperswillbeprintedbyoffsetprocess,incrownsize(240mmx180mm).
Therefore,thetextofthepaperinEnglishmustconformstrictlytothefollowingrequirementsand
be free from errors. Only original contributions that have not been published or presented at any
other forum are acceptable, and the paper shall be accompanied by the certificate to this effect
otherwisethepaperwillnotbeconsidered.

The paper title (brief and specific), name(s) of author(s) and affiliation and address, centre
justified, should be typed in a space of 50 mm from the top margin on the first page. The paper
should begin with a synopsis of not more than 200 words, describing the aims of work, methods
adopted,resultsobtainedandconclusions.
Type the headings, sub headings and paragraphs aligned with the lefthand margin. Both side
justifiedtextispreferred.Usedoublespacebetweensectionheadings/subheadingsandparagraphs.
Do not number paragraphs, but number section and sub sectional headings except synopsis in
conformitywithestablishedconvention.
SIunitsshouldbeusedasfaraspossibleinthetext,figuresandtables.Whereuseoftheseunits
cannotbeavoided,theirequivalentinSIunitsshouldbegivenwithinparentheses.
Standard and universally accepted abbreviations should be used. When a special abbreviation
appearsinthetextforthefirsttime,itshouldbeaccompaniedbyitsextendedform.
All symbols and mathematical formulae included in the text should preferably be typed using
scientific and mathematical typeface or alternatively be inserted in black ink. Symbols should be
explainedinthetext.
FiguresshouldbedrawninblackIndianink(ifnotinFloppy/CD)ontranslucentpaperoracetate
material (Gateway Tissue) with lettering of appropriate size using stencils. The figures should be
placednearesttothefirstreferenceinthetextandshouldnotbelargerthantheprintareas.
