Installation Instructions, Remote Start and Four-Meter Panel Kits (TT-688)
r temperature gauge,
and generator running time hourmeter. Gauges are
illuminated and the generator set comes equipped with
a 6pin connector on controller back panel for
connection of the kit. See Figure 1 for panel features.

NOTE
All models shipped after June 1992 require the addition
of a Sender Kit to allow the oil pressure and water
temperature gauges to function. Contact an Authorized
Kohler Dealer for part no. of Sender Kit. Earlier models
may have senders already installed. Check lead 5
connection to water temperature sender and lead 7C to
oil pressure sender to determine if senders are present.
NOTE
The kit requires Remote Connection/Extension
Harnesses PA249334 15 ft. (46 m) or PA249336 25
ft. (76 mm). Extension should total no more than 75 ft.
(233 m).
Start/Stop Switch: Rockertype switch with ON light
used to start and stop generator set.
DC Voltmeter: Measures voltage of starting
battery(ies). Normal battery operating range is 1214
Volts. Check battery manufacturers recommendation
for correct operating voltage.
Engine Oil Pressure Gauge: Measures engine oil
pressure.
Water Temperature Gauge: Measures engine coolant
temperature.
Hourmeter: Records total generator set operating
hours for reference in maintenance scheduling.
NOTE
If this kit is installed on a generator set already in service,
the hourmeter on the controller will have accumulated
hours and therefore, be different than the panel
hourmeter. Be sure to use the same hourmeter each
time when scheduling maintenance.
WARNING
Accidental starting.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Disconnect battery cables before working on gen-
erator set (negative lead first and reconnect it last).
Accidental starting can cause severe injury or
death. Disconnect battery cables (remove negative
lead first and reconnect it last) to disable generator set
before working on any equipment connected to
generator. The generator set can be started by remote
start/stop switch unless this precaution is followed.
2
Explosive fuel vapors can cause severe injury or
death. Gasoline vapors can explode and can cause
death or severe injury. USCG Regulation 33CFR183
requires all electrical devices (shiptoshore transfer
switch, remote start panel, etc.) to be ignition protected
when used in a gasoline (gaseous)fueled
environment. These electrical devices are not ignition
protected and are not certified to operate in a gasoline
(gaseous)fueled environment such as engine room or
near fuel tanks. Acceptable locations would be
wheelhouse or other living areas sheltered from rain and
water splash.
(gasoline models only)
WARNING
Explosion.
Gasoline vapors can cause explosion and
severe injury or death.
Before starting generator set, operate blower 4
minutes and check engine compartment for
gasoline vapors.
(gasoline models only)
INSTALLATION
1.
Disconnect battery, negative lead first.
2.
Determine where in wheelhouse or bridge remote
panel is to be mounted. This decision will be limited
by the length of the wiring harness and the size
(including mounting depth) of the panel.
NOTE
The kit requires Remote Connection/Extension
Harnesses PA249334 15 ft. (46 m) or PA249336
25 ft. (76 mm). Extension should total no more than
75 ft. (233 m).
See Figure 2 mounting dimensions. The minimum
mounting clearance beyond the panel is 4 in. (102
mm). See Figure 3 for the panel assembly wiring.
3.
Connect Remote Extension Harness to remote
panel and mount panel using four screws.
4.
Connect the other end of Remote Extension
Harness to back of generator set controller.
Use supplied wire strap to secure wiring harness to
controller. Attach wire strap using screw to hole in
controller near 6pin connector (4/6.5CZ and
3.5CFZ/5CFZ models only). Discard wire strap and
screw for all other models. Use rubber grommets
and cable ties as necessary to protect and secure
wiring harness. Installation must conform to
U.S.C.G. Regulations 183.425 through 183.460.
5.
GASOLINE MODELS ONLY:
Select a location as near as practical to remote start
panel for mounting warning decal. Ideally, the decal
should be visible when starting generator set.
Before applying decal, be sure surface is clean and
dry. See Figure 4.
Figure 4. Warning Decal
6.
Reconnect battery, negative lead last. Start/stop
generator set using controller switch and remote
switch. Monitor gauges for proper function. STOP
generator set.
