ed Com 1 and Com 2. Make sure that the serial port you want

to use is not used for anything else. If the serial port is used for any-

thing other than the encoder software, the encoder software may

not work properly.

Place the encoder and power supply on a flat surface.

Plug the encoder cable into the serial port that you have decided to

use. Secure the cables connector to the serial port.

Find the round hole in the back of the encoder cable connector, as

shown in Figure 1.

Plug the power cord from the power supply into the round hole in

the encoder cable connector. Make sure that it is completely inserted

into the hole.

Plug the power cord into the power supply and then plug the power

supply cord into a 120 volt AC outlet.

Turn on the computer.

Load the Software

Start Microsoftョ Windows if it is not yet running.

Note:

Although the Card Encoder software will run in the Windows 98

environment, the following steps only describe loading the software

with Windows 95.

Place the 3.5-inch installation disk into the drive.

Close any Windows applications that are running.

Click the

Start

button, and then click

Run

.

The Run dialog box opens.

In the

Open

box, type A:\SETUP



(or B:\SETUP).

Click

OK

.

The setup process begins.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the encoder software

setup.

Set up the software

To login to the software for the first time

Double-click the Card Encoder icon, or, click the

Start

button, and

then point to

Programs

. Point to the

Best Access Systems

folder,

and then click

Encoding Software

.

The software opens and a box appears with copyright information.

After a few seconds, the box disappears and another box opens that

asks for a user name and password.

In the

Name

box, type best.

In the

Password

box, type best.

Click

Done

To set up the encoder

From the

Options

menu, click

Encoder Options

.

The Encoder Options box opens.

Under

Com Port

, click on the serial port number that you have

decided to use for the encoder.

Click

Test Encoder

.

The software checks the encoder connection.

If there is a problem finding and checking the encoder, a message box

will appear notifying you of that fact. In such a case, call your Best Access

Systems Representative. If the software finds and approves the encoder,

go on to the next step.

To change the password

From the

Options

menu, click

Change Password.

The Change Password box opens.

In the

Name

box, type the Login Name that you want to use when

logging into the software. The Login Name can be up to 20 charac-

ters, numbers, or letters.

In the

Password

box, type the password that you want to use when

logging into the software. The password can be up to 20 characters,

numbers or letters.

Click

OK

.

The Change Password box disappears and the Confirm Password box

opens.

In the

Password

box, retype your password.

Click

OK

.

The software is now ready to use. For help using the software, press the

F1 function key from any location in the software.
