FIRE PREVENTION CHECKLIST
FIRES CAN BE CAUSED BY A VARIETY OF HAZARDS AND UNSAFE BEHAVIOR.
YOU CAN HELP PREVENT FIRES AT YOUR WORKSITE BY FOLLOWING THESE GUIDELINES:
PRACTICE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
Keep equipment
and machinery clean and in good operating condition
Report and
cleanup (if appropriate) all spills
Keep work,
storage and refuse areas clean and free of debris
Place all
combustible wastes, such as oily rags, in self-closing, covered containers
Keep fire
exits and evacuation routes clear of obstacles at all times and well
marked
Maintain clear
access to fire alarms, fire extinguishers, sprinkler system controls
and valves, fire hoses, and fire pumps at all times
Maintain a minimum
of 36 inches clearance in front of all electrical panels, power dis</span><span
class="Normal--Char" style=" font-size: 12pt;">connect, and breaker
boxes
Periodically
clean sprinkler heads, heat detectors, and fusible links to keep them
free of dust and residues.牋 Never cover or paint over these devices

FOLLOW ESTABLISHED SAFETY POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Practice and evaluate f</span><span class="Normal--Char" style=" font-size: 12pt;
">acility fire drills at least annually
Never leave open flames unattended
Observe No Smoking signs and smoke only in designated areas
Communicate company fire safety procedures to all on-site contractors
Follow the welding & hot work operation procedures and use the IRI Hot
Work Permit System
Report all fire suppression system impairments to IRI and local fire
officials
Report unsafe practices or behavior to your supervisor
FLAMMABLE AND COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS
Store flammable liquids in tightly closed, s</span><span class="Normal--Char" style=" font-size: 12pt;
">elf-closing, spill-proof safety cans (UL-listed and/or FM-approved),
away from heat or ignition sources
Store small flammable/combustible liquid containers, such as paints
and solvents cans, in approved, fire-rated safety cabinets equipped
with self-closi</span><span class="Normal--Char" style=" font-size: 12pt;
">ng doors (FM-approved)
Provide adequate sprinkler protection, secondary spill containment,
and adequate ventilation in designated flammable/combustible storage
rooms
Properly ground and bond all flammable liquid storage drums/containers
in storage and duri</span><span class="Normal--Char" style=" font-size: 12pt;
">ng transfer from one container to another
Properly dispose of empty flammable containers and wastes through
