Clerk of Circuit Court John Barrett announced that his office can now
accept credit/debit cards in person for the payment of fines, forfeitures and
civil filing fees. Previously, credit/debit cards could only be used when
paying fines and forfeitures by telephone or on-line.

We are pleased to be able to offer this service to the users of the court
system, Barrett said. While the main purpose is to provide a convenient
alternative to writing a check or paying in cash, we also hope it will
enhance the collection of fines and forfeitures, Barrett said.

A change in state law and a county resolution were needed to make this
practical and cost-effective for the Clerks office. Customers will be
charged a 3% service fee on each transaction. At this time, MasterCard
and Visa are the only cards that can be used. Payments can be made in
Room 117 of the Safety Building for fines and forfeitures, and Room 104
of the Courthouse for filing fees and other payments related to civil, family
and small claims matters.
