Rating Definition
Gen Set Continuous Power
This type of rating applies to heavy-duty diesel generator sets when used as a utility
power source. The engine is expected to be operated with constant and/or
dedicated loads with load factors up to 100% of the continuous power rating. Under
these conditions, the engine may be operated for an unlimited number of hours per
year.
Gen Set Limited Running Time Power
This type of rating applies to heavy-duty diesel generator sets when used as a utility
power source which will deliver rated power for up to 700 hours per year. Normal
varying load factors and/or constant dedicated loads must not exceed 75% of the
limited running time power rating.
Gen Set Prime Power
This type of rating applies to heavy-duty diesel generator sets when used as a utility
power source. It is subject to normal varying load conditions, with an intermittent
overload capability of 10% (up to the standby power rating), for no more than 1 hour
in every 12 hours operation. When averaged over a 24 hour period, the average load
factor must not exceed 70% of the prime power rating. Under these conditions the
generator set may be operated for an unlimited number of hours per year.
Gen Set Standby Power
This type of rating applies to heavy-duty diesel generator sets when used in the
event of a utility power failure. The generator set may be operated at rated power
for the duration of the utility outage. The generator set will operate with an average
load factor of less than 70% of the rated power and will operate for less than 5% of
the time over the course of a year.
Performance
Air to air charge air cooling allows for maximum efficiency and low fuel consumption
All 1800rpm ratings meet EPA non-road mobile emissions requirements
All ratings capable of meeting NFPA-110 100% block loading requirements
Four valves per cylinder provide optimum air flow for increased engine performance
DDEC IV engine control manages the fuel system for maximum output, low smoke, and precise speed
control
Short and straight intake and exhaust passages ease air flow and prevent heating of intake air,
increasing horsepower and reducing fuel consumption
DDEC IV allows unaided cold starts down to 20°F
Half-engine idle provides for rapid warm-up (can be turned off for emergency genset applications)
Reliability and Durability
Single one-piece cylinder head allows for ease of maintenance and serviceability
38 head bolts provide over 1,000,000 pounds clamp load on the head gasket for extremely long life
Overhead cam arrangement means no push rods for higher fuel injection pressures and better fuel
economy
Ceramic injector rollers handle high injection pressures while providing exceptional life
Top Liner Cooling cools the cylinder liner all the way to the top, reducing ring temperatures by
100°F
Oversize main bearings mean extended overhaul interval
Reusable rocker cover and oil pan gaskets ease maintenance and reduce costs
Specially honed cylinder liners and ring set for low oil consumption and long life
Features and Benefits
Composite oil pan lowers total engine weight
DDEC IV provides complete engine control including safety shutdowns and self-diagnostics
Self-compensating electronic unit injectors provide consistent horsepower output throughout the life of
the engine
DDEC engine management reports help you manage the cost of your operation
DDEC IV compensates for fuel temperature allowing for operation with fuel inlet temperatures up to
140°F
Same inexpensive diagnostic tool used on all DDEC electronic engines
True worldwide parts and service support
Standard one year warranty with available extended coverage options
Fuel System Remote mounted fuel filters
Exhaust Connection System90° dry exhaust elbows
Cooling System Coolant heater, optional fan drive ratio
Starting System Air starter
Engine - Aluminum flywheel housing
Optional Equipment
