Front Suspension Noise
SYMPTOM
A squeaking noise (a dry rubber-like sound) coming
from the front suspension, usually heard when driving
through dips or over potholes.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The second coil of the damper spring contacts and
rubs against the urethane silencer tube on the first coil.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install spring silencer tubes on the second coil of the
damper springs. If the silencer tube does not eliminate
the noise, replace the damper assembly.
NOTE: Do not file or grind on the ends of the springs in
an attempt to eliminate the noise. Doing so could cause
rust and corrosion on the spring and damper assembly.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and turn the wheels all
the way to the right.
2. Cut the spring silencer tube in half with a utility knife
or scissors.
3. Wipe off the lower section of the damper spring
with a shop towel, then clean the same section with
isopropyl alcohol.

4. Install one half of the spring silencer tube over the
second coil about 25 mm (1 inch) past the end of
the spring.
5. Wrap filament tape (see REQUIRED MATERIALS)
around both ends of the spring silencer tube.
6. Repeat steps 3 thru 5 for the other damper spring.
7. Test-drive the vehicle through a dip or over a
pothole. If the noise still exists, replace the damper
assembly that makes noise.
8. If you replaced the damper(s), check the front
wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
