PROCEDURE MALE/FEMALE COMPARISON STUDY

For MEN

General

Let reception staff know when you have a subject. Always assure subjects
are posted on the KICalendar following the LAB-M/F study <experimenters
name> format.

Experimenter room

Turn on the laptop and PC: Login as phys-lab, no password
Turn on the VCR, remote control to set VCR on VCR, counter to 0
by pressing cancel on VCR
Turn on the audio mixer (check sliders). 
Check intercom (Press button. No beep --> Replace batteries).
Get experimental log and order form.
Retrieve 4 videotapes for this session (use order form to determine
order of film #1 and #2). Fast forward Cat film to 00:04:20.  Rewind
others if necessary.
Check audio, TV, and microphone connections.
Put Do not disturb sign on the door.

Subject room

Turn on the light, the TV, and the two small lamps.
Turn off the air conditioner.
Check TV and headphones by playing Cat film.
Rigiscan:

Install new batteries (every 5 subjects -- use form).
Install new loop covers: Expand loop by inserting your fingers in
it and slowly apply outward pressure. Pull the release tab at the Y
connector. Turn the Y connector counter-clockwise. Remove used loop
cover.

Insert
snap end of tension guide cable securely into the feeder tube of the
new loop at the Y connector. Pull the feeder tube and cable through
the loop cover. Screw the Y connector clockwise until it is securely
fastened to the tension guide (do not over tighten). Remove feeder tube.
Push and snap into the receptacle on the Y connect. Expand the loops
manually.

Slide the Rigiscan into the holster of the leg strap and connect cable
to Rigiscan.
Check the Rigiscan cable connection to the laptop
Initialize Rigiscan: Start Rigiscan program on the laptop. Turn on
Rigiscan monitor. Click Rigiscan in program menu (alt-R). If Rigiscan
Contents window appears click okay. If error window appears check cables
to laptop  etc. and try again.
Initialize: Check if Rigiscan data has been downloaded. If so, click
Initialize. Enter subject ID (MF##RIGI, e.g., MF02RIGI) and ID (use
same name), do not enter birth date. Click Provocative. Leave Comments
empty. Click OK.  Dont turn off the Rigiscan monitor, and dont
exit the Rigiscan program.

Portapres.

Check Flash Card memory: Press on-button. Press Arrow-up and -down
keys simultaneously. Use arrow-up or -down to select, Stop-key when
ready. (To accept choices: press start-key). When less than 2 Mb available:
Inform Erick.
If the laptop is available, check if the Portapres cable is connected,
turn on the laptop, and (after login on to the Server) start 'BeatScope'.
Go to 'Monitor and Control'.

General rules:

NEVER start the Portapres (i.e. never apply air pressure to a cuff)
unless the cuffs are wrapped around the fingers.

class="Normal--Char" style=" font-weight: bold;">e cuffs from fingers
before stopping Portapres.
Don</span><span class="Normal--Char" style=" font-weight: bold;"></span><span
class="Normal--Char" style=" font-weight: bold;">t bend cuffs outwards
to a flat shape.

All this can cause irreversible and permanent damage to the cuffs!

Get two paper drapes and towel.
Put one paper drape on chair.
Put on desk:
