A message from our chamber president
The summer months in Darien are filled with events hosted
by our local non-profit and service organizations. The Darien
Lions Club puts so much effort into the 4th of July parade,
which the City enjoys helping with through closing streets,
providing police officers, and throwing out candy to the
children. The Darien Historical Society has their annual Ice
Cream Social, which gives everyone a chance to enjoy ice
cream, cookies and lemonade while visiting with their friends
and neighbors. There are also many block parties throughout
the summer. These events help bring the community closer
and bring a spirit of cooperation among neighbors that makes
Darien great.
I am pleased so many projects are now in progress. We
are continuing our aggressive neighborhood reinvestment
program we began three years ago by repairing and replacing
streets and sidewalks. The list of the streets, including the
rebuilding of four streets for a total of 5.5 miles is included
later in the Citys pages. Also this year
are ditch repair projects which will
benefit Darien residents by providing better drainage on City
property and rights-of-way. We are pleased to increase our
capital projects and, at the same time, decrease our property
tax rate to residents.
Finally, Darien taxing districts are cooperating better then
ever before. Through an intergovernmental agreement, the
City and Park District found a way to reduce the amount
spent on resurfacing the Park District parking lots by at least
$50,000. DIPI, our group of elected officials from the local
taxing bodies, will continue to meet regularly. DIPI will
continue to explore ways to reduce the overall expenses of the
taxing districts to give Darien great value for their tax dollar.

is a great way to keep your pulse on local events that will be
hosted by the Darien Chamber of Commerce.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor
Weaver for delivering our State of the City address at our past
luncheon. We are very appreciative of the time you take to
answer any and of all our questions related to the continuous
improvement of our great city. Mayor Weaver filled us in on
capital improvements throughout the city and informed us
on the progress of constructing a Downtown Darien. The
Chamber of Commerce looks forward to assisting the City
with this project and helping find new business to bring into
Darien.
DarienFest planning is under way for 2008. We are
diligently working with the City and its local municipalities
to ensure that the Fest is safe and enjoyed by all.
The Chamber is proud to announce a new committee
that has been formed, Women in Business Networking
Group. This group will be focusing on sharing thoughts
and ideas from our local women in business while giving
back to our Community. If you are interested in serving on
this committee, please contact the Chamber. The Chamber
always welcomes input from our residents as well as our local
businesses. Should you ever have any questions or comments
please do not hesitate to contact us. The Darien Chamber
