1. Overview
The Touch N Track accountability
system includes Touch N Tracks,
Personal Identification Buttons (PIBs)
and Transfer Tags. The system may
be customized to meet the
accountability requirements of any
fire department, from small volunteer
departments to the multi-company
departments found in large cities.
This manual covers only field usage
of the Touch N Track system. See
the Touch N Track software manual
for any questions pertaining to
implementation decisions or
programming of Touch N Tracks,
Transfer Tags or PIBs.
Note: Biosystems recommends
leaving the Touch N Track
powered up and in its charger
whenever it is not being used. By
keeping the Touch N Track on its
charger and under power, it will
always be ready for use when an
incident occurs.
Touch 'N Track has three modes of
operation; Station Mode,
Accountability Mode and Sector
Mode. On turn on, the Touch N
Track will either enter Station Mode
directly or will automatically prompt
the user to choose between Sector
and Accountability Mode.
Note: The term Sector Mode will
be used throughout this manual to
describe the mode in which a
Touch N Track is used to monitor
a subdivision of the fire scene.
If the display is blank upon removal
from the charger, press the MODE
button once to start the Touch N
Track.

Station Mode is designed to save
time on the fire scene by having
firefighters log into the system when
they arrive at the station. In this
scenario, when an incident occurs,
the firefighters have already logged
into the system when they arrive at
the fire scene. If there are no
incidents during the day, the
firefighters log out when they leave
the station at the end of their shift.
When an incident occurs, the first
Touch N Track to arrive on the fire
scene should be placed in
Accountability Mode. Accountability
Mode offers several different log-in
options. Individuals can log into the
system with their PIB. To save time
and eliminate long lines of firefighters
waiting to log in on the fire scene,
entire companies can log into the
system at once with a Transfer Tag
that has been downloaded from
another instrument in Station Mode.
Personnel Accountability Reports
(PARs) are used to keep track of
everyone on the fire scene. In
Accountability Mode, PARs can be
either automatically initiated by the
Touch N Track or manually initiated.
Once the fire scene has been
subdivided, other Touch N Tracks
can be used to monitor subdivisions
of the fire scene. In Sector Mode
each individual assigned to a
particular sector logs in when they
enter the sector and logs out when
they leave the sector. In Sector
Mode, Personnel Accountability
Reports (PARs) must be initiated
manually.
2. Station
Mode
Upon removal from the charger, the
Touch N Track will either remain in
Station Mode, or will prompt the user
to choose between Accountability
Mode and Sector Mode. If the
display is blank upon removal from
4
the charger, press the MODE button
once to start the Touch N Track.
