FLASH BULLETIN 2005 Year-End Greetings from the President/Executive Director

FLASH BULLETIN
2005 Year-End

Greetings from the President/Executive Director

2005, our 15
th
anniversary, has been an extraordinary year for AAPIP! Our Boston
chapter launched our year-long events last January. Then our chapter leaders across
the country organized in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Minnesota, Washington DC, San
Francisco, culminating with our celebration in Los Angeles. Largely due to the hard
work of many of you coupled with the tremendous leadership of our board, chapter co-
chairs, steering committee members and key allies, AAPIP is now nearly 500 member
strong, 8 chapters and poised to begin re-granting funds within the next year. We are
pleased to manage/host several donor advised funds and giving circles as we incubate
our ability to grow community philanthropy. In the past few months, the Ford
Foundation has granted AAPIP an unprecedented $2.7million to seed the first two years
of the National Gender & Equity Campaign. We look forward to working with you in
2006 as we travel across the country to strategize and roll out the campaign.

This past year was also a time of both sadness and celebration. We bid a fond farewell
to longtime board members Lisa Philp and Bill Ong Hing and to longtime staff member
Rita Bawanan Merzoian. We also have welcomed new board members Danielle Reyes,
Lina Paredes and Jeff Kumataka along with new staff members Phuong Quach, Stefanie
Ritoper and Butler/Koshland Fellow, Sandy Kajiyama. We mourned the passing of our
legal counsel and incredible community advocate, Alan Watahara. We continue to
appreciate his counsel and support as we have entered new areas of work.

Thank you for continuing to work together to build AAPIP as we maintain our
commitment to strengthening our communities and insisting that philanthropy be more
equitable for all.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
