X-Ray Film Digitizer for Mammography CAD

y exams, when
combined with mammography CAD, are the single most effective
tool for detecting early signs of breast cancer.

CAD systems incorporate advanced pattern recognition and
image analysis capabilities designed to aid in the detection of
subtle signs of breast cancer. These systems enable radiologists
to improve their ability to detect early stage cancers in an efficient
manner. A key component of these CAD systems is a high
performance film digitizer that meets the highest standards of
image quality and reliability.

Understanding Marketplace Needs

Unlike other manufacturers that take an evolutionary approach,
VIDAR has created a revolutionary design for the CAD PRO
Advantage in the important areas of image quality, film feeding
and transport, and system speed. VIDAR worked closely with
major CAD systems providers, mammography technologists,
radiologists, engineering consultants, and quality experts to
ensure that the CAD PRO Advantage meets the exacting needs
of the mammography marketplace. The CAD PROs advanced
technology will enable CAD systems providers to improve
radiologists confidence in accurately detecting breast
abnormalities
.

Technology Advantage and Innovation

VIDAR has filed three patents related to the CAD PRO
Advantage technology. Each of these patents applies to critical
product attributes such as image quality, reliability, and system
throughput. The CAD PRO Advantage offers unmatched spatial
and contrast resolution, allowing radiologists to be confident that
the image data the CAD system receives from the film digitizer is
an exact representation of the original film. Additionally, VIDARs
ADC (Automatic Digitizer Calibration) prompts the film digitizer
to calibrate automatically before every film digitized; therefore,
user intervention is not needed for this operation. In addition, the
CAD PRO Advantage includes a closed-loop quality assurance
system to help ensure the digitizer sub-system meets all MQSA
requirements. This combination of technology results in virtually
no variation in image quality from one digitized film to another,
and ensures excellent grayscale reproduction in every image.
This reproducibility, vital for mammography CAD, is another
hallmark of VIDAR digitizers. Productivity and reliability will
increase due to the digitizers exceptional reproducibility of image
quality.

Understanding Customer Requirement
s

VIDAR listened to its customers with the goal of enhancing the
standard of care for mammography. Key requirements for a
successful digitizer include excellent image quality, film feeder

reliability and speed. In particular, film feeder reliability and
speed are vital to productivity, as film feeder problems have
the potential to disrupt operations, increase costs, and
inconvenience patients.

VIDAR, as part of its commitment to technology leadership,
worked relentlessly to develop an innovative film feeder
design. The continuous loading SmartFeeder

is the anchor
of the film digitizers reliability. The CAD PRO Advantage
offers a modular 50-sheet film feeder. In addition, the
advanced design of the feeder eliminates film jams, double
feeds, and film pick-up problems that occur with other
digitizers. Most importantly, the CAD PRO Advantage
feeder is designed for continuous case loading. This feature
allows the user to add cases without interrupting the
digitizing process.

In addition, the CAD PRO Advantage is able to digitize a
four-film case in less than 120 seconds, which is 2X the
speed of most other digitizers on the market, further
increasing productivity. The CAD PROs modular design
allows easy access for scheduled maintenance and field
serviceable parts replacement to minimize downtime.

VIDARs clinically proven technology and unique product
designs continue to set the standard for excellence in a
number of market segments, including PACS, teleradiology,
telemedicine, mammography, and oncology. VIDARs
digitizers are the choice of more than 100 systems solution
providers.
