General
This instruction sheet provides the description and installation procedures for the Z-IDC Over Current
Only single-pair protector unit. The unit is orange and black in color.
Warning: Over-Current Only Single Pair Protector does not provide over-voltage
protection. Over-Voltage Cartridge Protector must be installed on the customer
side of the Over-current Only Protector for voltage protection.

Verify parts according to the Parts List. Report any damaged or missing parts to your local CommScope
representative.

Install the required Over-Voltage Cartridge Protector Unit
If using a hinged type connecting block mounting bracket on the line (vertical) side of the frame, install the
Voltage Only Cartridge Protector on the rear (gray) of the connector module.
If using a fixed type connecting block mounting bracket on the line (vertical) side of the frame, install the
Voltage Only Cartridge Protector on the front (white) side of the connector module.
Install Over-Current Only Single Pair Protector Unit
If using a hinged type connecting block mounting bracket on the exchange (horizontal) side of the frame,
install the Earth (ground) Bar and Over-Current Only Single-Pair Protector on the rear (white) of the
connector module.
If using a fixed type connecting block mounting bracket on the exchange (horizontal) side of the frame,
install the Earth (ground) Bar and Over-Current Only Single-Pair Protector on the front (gray) side of the
connector module.
Install Earth (Ground) Bar on Connector Module

1. Determine whether protectors are to be installed on the front side or the rear side of the Connector
Module.

2. Connector Module must first be installed on mounting bracket.
3. Engage earth (ground) bar contacts around mounting bracket tabs.
4. Insert earth (ground) bar tabs into Connector Module cap slots.
5. Press earth (ground) bar firmly to seat against Connector Module cap. (Use blunt-end pliers or
similar tool.)
Note:
If using a hinged mounting bracket with rear mounted protector the Earth (ground) Bar is mounted
on the rear of the connector module and engages the connector module mounting tabs from the
inside rear of the mounting bracket.

Ten earth bars are provided with the single-pair protector units if the protectors are ordered in kits of 100
units (Refer to Table 1- see codes indicated with a
symbol
), so they usually do not need to be ordered
separately. If protectors are ordered individually, earth bars must be ordered separately see below.
Table 2 lists the ordering information and Figure 1 shows the earth (ground) bar on a 10-pair connector
module.
