Party session. Harley Enthusiasts participated in 15 minute stations with hands on experiences. There are
many volunteers to acknowledge; Tom & Debbie Menning prepared and served the BBQ lunch, Monicas
PA talent and all the HOGs that ladyd the set up, registration, judging and break down! Look for Chris-
tines check presentation to the Desert Cancer Foundation in the near future.
April 13
th
the S-2 ride really happened! It will be the remembered ride of 2008. Now, Kurts success is no
secret. For two years he played with our riding emotions actively planning and re-scheduling the ride (with
Lindas assistance I am sure). But there were no more excuses not to ride, and ride we did. With an un-
heard-of 7:00 AM departure from the Palm Desert Dealership, Kurt managed to interest over 17 bikes and
some 25 HOG participants. Over 300 miles were logged planned to the tenth of a mile, with stops that in-
cluded breakfast in the park, lunch, and dinner. If you were on a diet, you blew it on this ride with two des-
sert stops; one for apple pie in Julian and one for ice cream at DQ in Anza (a must stop!). But it wasnt all
about the food. There were scenic stops to take in the historic stagecoach trails and water the desert flowers.
Bravo Zulu Road Captain, outstanding RIDE!
Not to be out done, our Membership Officer, Tom, captained his ride to Daltons Road House in San Marcos
on April 19
th
. Another outstanding ride with a selection of twisty turnies through Warner Springs, Santa Ysa-
bel to Ramona. Daltons Road House was a HOG heaven it was dining outdoors, eating BBQ, and showin
some love with the peanuts. Yep I said peanuts. You see, at this dining establishment, you can feed the
animals. Once seated, we were served drinks and buckets of peanuts. Some of us chose to eat the nuts while
others persistently bonzid fellow HOGs. Now, just ask Marv what happens when you mess with the Direc-
tor HOG retaliation is imminent the picture says it all! It was another great HOG showing and riding
experience.
Remember, its all about riding and having fun HOGs. Look for the next PSHOG Ride Announcement e-
mail. However, please visit the PSHOG website @
www.pshog.us
regularly to keep informed of all up and
coming rides and events. See you on the road.

The Jacket
By Linda Davis
Many things catch my attention when riding. Often its the sparkle of chrome, the bright color of a bike with painted accents,
and ankle chain on someones boot, bling on a helmet or an interesting patch on a vest. One thing that causes me to really
smile & shake my head knowingly is when I see something that shows the wear-and-tear of the road, something that proves
the rider has put miles on his bike. Im talking about things like boots with a worn down left toe or a leather jacket with lots
of creases in it things that show lots of wear and use, proof of the love of the road and the love of a ride.
A couple years ago, while riding in a parade, I saw such a jacket. Ted Freitag was riding in front of us, sitting comfortably on
his bike unaware that I was studying his jacket. It had the look of many years on the road. I loved that jacket! It spoke
volumes of experience on the bike.
It wasnt until recently that I told Ted how much I enjoyed looking at his jacket and asked how long hed been wearing it. He
replied, Funny you should ask. And then, he proceeded to tell me the story of His Jacket.
The summer of 1967, when I was 12, my older brother bought a motorcycle. My dad wasnt too keen on the idea of the bike,
but let him keep it. Dad knew he needed a good jacket and agreed to buy him the best one available. So, off to Sears and
Roebucks they went. (In those days, Sears and Roebucks sold some of the best motorcycle jackets you could buy.)
Talk about a jacket! It was real leather, had hard core zippers, heavy leather belt and the traditional red liner. It was true to
the nature of Marlon Brandos Wild Ones. I was impressed with that jacket. It looked cool. It even smelled cool!
Then, in 1968 during the height of the Viet Nam conflict, my brother signed up to join the U.S. Marine Corp. After completing
boot camp at Camp Pendleton, he came home on leave. Convinced he would not return home from the war, he gave me his
jacket with strict instructions to take care of it. I accepted his jacket with great honor.
Thankfully, he came home in one piece. He stayed with my dad and me for awhile. I was certainly happy to have him home!
Though, I kept wondering when he was going to ask for that jacket back. He never did.
The jacket hung in my closet until 1972, when I bought my first big bike, a 1970 650 Triumph. I started wearing my brothers
jacket. Through these years, Ive had a vast collection of motorcycles Jap bikes, BMW, Triumph, 79 Shovel, 90 Softtail, 05
Electra Glide. A lot of different bikes, but only one jacket.
