Donated Items:

Bring on Wednesday ONLY 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM

PTA will accept donated items on Wednesday ONLY
(must be from PTA member-please
wear your name tag).
Donated items must be clean and in good shape.
Dont just empty
your drawers!
Help us by pre-sorting your items (clothes in one bag, shoes in another bag,
books in another bag, etc.) and clearly marking what is inside. Or, help us by marking your
donations at home. If you do this, please use the colored dots (available from the business
office),
along with the suggested price list
, which is enclosed (or you can download one
from the Web site).

Tagged Items:
Bring on Wednesday or Thursday until 6:00 PM

Only bring items that are in good shape and clean!
Remember: You must have a
current PTA membership to bring in tagged items! See the How to Mark Tags
section for instructions.

If you put an item in that has special requirements for its use, please
write a note on the tag. Prices should end with a '0', for example: ¥50 or ¥100, but NOT ¥55 or
¥103. We don't keep change less than ¥10.

DO NOT BRING:

We do NOT accept
furniture items (including large appliances), TVs,
computers or monitors, large gym equipment, skies, baby car seats
and large baby strollers. Since we must pay additional fees for their
disposal, we do NOT accept these items.

We also cannot accept
bicycles
for
sale at Thrift Shop. This is partly due to the need here in Japan to transfer registration of a
bicycle when it is sold.
Also, please, NO PAL VIDEOS.

A bulletin board will be available in the gym lobby for posting these items for sale during the
month of October until the last day of Thrift Shop. The enclosed FOR SALE template will help
you include all the necessary information. It is also available on the CAJ Web site at
http://caj.or.jp/ in the Community section under PTA.

HOME MADE VIDEOS OR CDS (recorded from TV and other sources) will NOT be sold. We
want to follow copyright laws.

Do NOT bring any over-the-counter DRUGS, VITAMINS or FOOD items that are EXPIRED
OR HAVE A BROKEN SEAL.

Any of the above items that come in, tagged or not, will be thrown away. DO
NOT BRING THEM, we dont need more to put in the garbage bin!

DO NOT MARK PRICES LESS THAN ¥50!

Any item left by Saturday morning becomes the property of the PTA and will
be disposed of if not sold.

Please be careful that the contents of items you donate or tag for selling at Thrift
Shop are in keeping with CAJs Christian values. We reserve the right to not
put out any item we consider questionable. If tagged, we will call the owner to
see if they want to reclaim it or have us discard it. IF IT DOESN'T WORK OR HAS SPOTS,
STAINS, OR TEARS
THROW IT AWAY AT HOME!!!

How to Mark Tags

For tagging items, please use the 'mishin irii nifuda' tags. These
are available in the school business office for ¥100/50 tags. If
you make your own tags please use heavy paper of
the same size (2.25 x 4.75 inches or 6 x 12 cm) and FOLD IT
IN THE MIDDLE to make it easier for the checkers to tear off.
Thin paper and smaller sizes make it much harder for us to get
your money back to you. Any tags that are of significantly
different size or weight are subject to a tag offender handling
fee of ¥ 500; continuous offenders may be charged ¥1000.

Be sure your tags are attached securely. The PTA is
NOT responsible for any tags that come off before purchase.
When using tape to attach a tag;

please leave the bottom half free.

Also, cello tape stays on better than 'magic' tape. (Another
tip is to put awkward items in an open box and then put it
all in a clear plastic bag). Just remember that the bottom
half of the tag gets torn off and is our means of telling what
you've sold (and getting your money back to you!!).

YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR PTA NUMBER and
the ¥ PRICE (¥50 minimum). Other helpful information, such
as the size on clothing and shoes, can be included.
If you are selling an electrical item or a small appliance,
please include your phone # and name on the TOP half.

At the end of Friday any member may claim their own unsold items by displaying the item with
its tag matching their PTA# to an Executive Committee member.
All items not sold by 1:00
PM on Saturday will be disposed of.

Commission / Payback

PTA keeps a 25% commission from all Friday sales and 100% from Saturday sales. Payback
money for items sold at Thrift Shop may be picked up in the business office after Nov. 10. If you
wish to have your money mailed to you, there is a handling charge deducted from the payback.
Let us know, in writing, if you wish to have your money mailed to you or if someone else will
pick it up for you. Payback not picked up by the last day of the next Thrift Shop is considered a
donation to the PTA (unless previous arrangements are made with the PTA treasurer).

All money remaining after paybacks, including all proceeds from donated items, will first be
used to pay the expenses incurred in the running of Thrift Shop. A tithe on the profit will go
directly to support approved student ministries. The remaining funds will be used by the PTA
for various projects to benefit CAJ.

OR you can fill out the volunteer form that is included (or download one from the CAJ Web site
at http://community.caj.or.jp/pta/forms.php) and return it to the CAJ business office.
If you are a
PTA member, we need your help to set-up and run Thrift Shop!

Wednesday or Thursday
8:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Friday

8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Saturday
8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
WE ALWAYS NEED MORE WORKERS!! Signing up ahead of time really helps us in our
planning, but you can come and work anytime, even if you havent signed up. Only PTA
members may work at Thrift Shop. If you work a minimum of 4 hours you may make
purchases at the end of the work day (Wednesday or Thursday).
All items must be paid
for and picked-up when you leave for the day, so please plan ahead.

Students grades 7-12 are able to help with set-up after school. They are asked to sign in and
wear a name tag. As with all volunteers, they are there primarily to work but are also able to
shop early, provided they work their 4 hours. Any student grades K-6 who desires to help must
be under the DIRECT supervision of a parent. The TOY SECTION IS NOT A PLAY AREA and
students MUST have a parent with them when shopping there.
Parents of preschoolers: Please, make plans for a baby-sitter while you work. It is dangerous
both for the child and the other workers to have little ones running around during set-up time.
