IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING QUARTERLY REPORTS: The IMPORT, EXPORT, BIRTH and
DEATH reports MUST BE SUBMITTED EACH YEAR ON A QUARTERLY BASIS. THESE
REPORTS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE ZOOLOGICAL HOLDING PERMIT! IF THE QUARTERLY
REPORTS ARE NOT RECEIVED BY THE DUE DATES, YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO PENALTY
OR FINE. REPORTS MUST BE SUBMITTED EVEN IF NO CHANGES OCCURRED DURING THE
QUARTER.
IMPORTANT NOTE No additional Potentially Dangerous species of any kind may be obtained
without prior written approval from the Wildlife Permits Unit, Exotic and Nongame Permit staff
and your facility must undergo an inspection before receipt of the animal. Requests for
approval must be in writing and include information on the proposed origin of the Potentially
Dangerous Species; possession purposes; experience with species; description of diet,
caging, etc. [SEE REGULATIONS: N.J.A.C. 7:25-4.7, 4.8 AND 4.9]. This includes animals on loan
from other institutions or replacements of deceased animals.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING NEW JERSEY'S WILD BIRD BILL: A-649 Amending R.S. 23:4-50.
After December 10, 1991 - the only regulated birds that can be brought into the state of New Jersey
(SEE REGULATIONS FOR EXEMPT SPECIES) that are WILD-CAUGHT BIRDS, must have been in
captivity legally before that date. All other birds must be captive-bred. You must have WRITTEN
PROOF from the source of the birds THAT SPECIFIES EVERY REGULATED BIRD THAT IS BROUGHT
INTO NEW JERSEY IS CAPTIVE-BRED OR THAT IT WAS IN CAPTIVITY LEGALLY BEFORE December
10, 1991.

******Effective immediately under the authority of the New Jersey Division of
Fish and Wildlife: Captive Game and Exotic and Nongame regulations,
THERE IS A BAN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ON THE IMPORTATION OF
WHITE-TAILED DEER, BLACK-TAILED DEER, MULE DEER, RED DEER,
ELK AND MOOSE INTO THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY. This is due to the
growing concern of the spread of CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE into wild
and farmed herds of animals in the deer family throughout the United
States. ******

All Applicants bringing regulated hoofed stock from outside New Jersey MUST PROVIDE a
photocopy of their CURRENT USDA PERMIT. Also ATTACH PHOTOCOPIES OF CURRENT
PERMITS AND HEALTH CERTIFICATES FOR MAMMALS. All applicants bringing regulated hoofed
stock from outside of New Jersey must supply copies of health certificates certifying that the wildlife is
free of Tuberculosis and Brucellosis and any other communicable disease. It is mandatory to comply
with the USDA Tuberculosis Eradication in Cervidae: Uniform Methods and Rules (Cervid UM&R).
Cervids not known to be affected with or exposed to tuberculosis that originate from other herds (i.e.
non-Accredited, non-Modified or non-Qualified herds) may be moved interstate if they are
accompanied by a certificate stating that such cervids have been classified negative in two official
tuberculosis tests that were conducted no less then 90 days apart, that the second test was
conducted within 90 days prior to the date of movement, and that the animals were isolated from
all other members of the herd during the testing period. Additionally, the Cervid UM&R has NO
minimum age standards for testing of cervids for interstate movements from herds that are
unclassified. Photocopies of health certificates must be submitted with your application. For more

No Zoological Holding activity is allowed before your permit application has been received
with the correct fee, health certificates, documentation, and any other current, relevant state
or federal required permits, and your application has been approved and a permit has been
issued.

MANNER AS TO PREVENT ANY POSSIBILITY OF PUBLIC CONTACT. NON-COMPLIANCE WITH
ANY REGULATION COULD RESULT IN FINES, PENALTIES AND REVOCATION OF PERMIT.

EXAMPLES OF PROHIBITED CONTACT INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Picture taking of the public holding regulated exotic and nongame wildlife.
"
Hand feeding of regulated exotic and nongame wildlife by the public.
"
Exhibition of any potentially dangerous wildlife outside of approved cage.
The requested regulated

exotic and nongame wildlife species must have the appropriate, current
health certificates to ensure that they do not pose a threat to humans, native wildlife or agriculture,
and that they are capable of Zoological Holding activities as indicated in your application.
It is the applicant's responsibility to provide veterinary care and proper diet for all regulated wildlife
species. In order to avoid problems with animal health and to ensure public safety, feeding of
regulated exotic and nongame wildlife species by the public is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
