Improved phase volume measurements and enhanced sample visibility
The pressure-volume-temperature
(PVT) phase behavior cell, an
integral part of the Schlumberger
Oilphase-DBR* fluid sampling and
analysis service, is a precision-
machined instrument for studying
fluid phase behavior and mea-
suring related vapor and liquid
physical properties.
The design of the PVT cell incor-
porates numerous features that
provide improved phase volume
measurements and enhanced
sample visibility. The dominant
feature is the glass cylinder that
encapsulates the fluid sample.
During operation, the structural
integrity of the glass cylinder is
maintained by exerting an over-
burden pressure to the exterior
surface of the cylinder.
Among the many advantages of
the mercury-free PVT cell is the
reduced exposure of the sample
to metal components. Contact is
limited to the end-cap surfaces,
which can be custom manufac-
tured from specialty alloys. This
allows the cell to be readily and
economically modified to handle
samples containing the most
troublesome components.
