SOMAY ACRYLIC LATEX PRIMER/UNDERCOATER Product No. 553
etal, when an acrylic latex
based, water-thinned primer is desired.
RECOMMENDED FOR: SOMAY
Acrylic Latex Primer/Undercoater can
be used on painted or unpainted
surfaces that are properly prepared,
especially wood and non-ferrous metal.
Can be used as a primer/undercoater
under either a solvent-thinned (oil
based) or water-thinned (acrylic latex
based) finish coat. NOT recommended
as a finish coat or as a primer on
unprimed ferrous metal surfaces.
SURFACE PREPARATION: The secret
of a successful painting job is proper
surface preparation. Surfaces MUST be
free of anything which could adversely
affect the adhesion of this coating to the
surface, including loose, scaling,
peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking,
flaking, chalking or powdering paint;
dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar,
wax, soap film or petroleum-based
residue; lye, lime, chlorine, salt, calci-
mine, efflorescence, or any other
chemically reactive substance; and must
be completely free of all mold, fungus,
mildew or any other growing organism
of any kind. Infirm surfaces MUST be
made firm.
Scrape off all loose, peeling, blistering,
chipping, cracking or flaking paint. Wire
brushing, pressure cleaning, power
sanding or sandblasting may be used to
remove powdering and chalking paint.
To remove dirt, grease, etc., wash with
water and detergent and then rinse
thoroughly with clean water. To remove
mildew, fungus, etc., scrub with a
solution made with 16 fluid ounces (473
mL) of liquid household bleach and 2
fluid ounces (59 mL) of detergent in one
gallon (3.785 L) of water. Rinse
thoroughly with clean water. Patch all
cracks, and when dry, sand smooth and
seal. You should have a completely
clean and firm surface before any new
coating is applied.
WARNING! Sanding or scraping to
remove old paint manufactured prior to
1950 that contained lead pigment may
generate lead dust. Exposure to lead
dust may cause adverse health effects,
especially in young children and
pregnant women. To control exposure
to lead dust use protective equipment,
such as a properly fitted respirator, and
follow proper cleanup procedures. For
more information in the US, call the
NATIONAL LEAD INFORMATION
CENTER at 1-800-424-LEAD.
