Summer is coming and we want you to be safe in everything that you do. Whether its your first time on
the course or thousandth, take a minute to review these tips and...
... get out there and start swinging!
... get out there and start swinging!
Golf Etiquette - Safety First!
The first rule for golf and golf etiquette is safety!
Ensure that no one is standing close by
or in a position to be hit by the club. You should not play until the players in
front are out of range. Always alert greenstaff nearby or ahead
when you are about to make a stroke that
might endanger them. If you play a ball in a direction where
there is a danger of hitting someone,
immediately shout a warning such as
fore! Walk. Dont ever run. It can be annoying,
distracting, and cause damage to the course. Be sure there is proper room for you to play
through before asking permission. Drive your cart at moderate speed and be
courteous of other drivers around you.
Lightning Safety
Each year, as many as 300 people are killed by light-
ning. More people are killed or injured by lightning
than by tornadoes, floods, or hurricanes.
Golf courses are open areas with scattered trees which
makes them dangerous places to be in a thunderstorm.
Lightning is looking for the fastest route between cloud
and ground, so be sure it doesnt find you! Seek shelter at the first sign of a thunderstorm. If possible, get off the course or go to a desig-
nated lightning shelter. Do not stand under a lone tree. This is where
most people are injured or killed. Stay away from water. Stay away from your golf clubs. If your shoes have metal spikes, take them off. Move away from your golf cart. If youre stranded, get low by finding a ditch,
ravine, or valley.
Golf carts can be fun! They get you where you need
to go, and it is easy to forget that these tiny vehicles
should be operated with the same care that you
would operate your vehicle with.
Be sure to follow these guidelines and stay safe on
the course. NEVER drink alcohol while operating the
golf cart. Only licensed operators should drive the
cart. Pedestrians always have the right of way. Follow capacity rules (2 people per cart). Follow cart signs closely. Keep all equipment, as well as hands and feet,
inside the cart at all times. Always remain seated and hold onto the safety
handles. Drive straight up and down slopes, avoid driving
sideways as the cart could tip. Always maintain a safe distance between carts
while on the path. When stopped, turn off the cart and remove the
key from the ignition.
