JOSHUA

MORE THAN CONQUERORS

This is an account by Joshua of the conquest of the inheritance, Canaan Land. The
book covers 25 yearsfrom the crossing of Jordan to the death of Joshua.
Canaan is a picture of individual saints (and also a picture of the Church) coming into the
inheritance of God and possessing all that has been given to us by God in Christ!
(Joshua 1:15b) It is possessing our possessions! It is coming into our confessions! It is
rest (1:15a) over against frustration and defeat (Hebrews 4)!

JOSHUAS JOURNAL OF FAITH FOLLOWS THIS OUTLINE

I. ENTERING THE LAND (Chapters 15)

THE CROSSING OF THE JORDAN: The crisis at the
Jordan that brought Gods people into rest was as real as the
crisis at the Red Sea that brought them into redemption.

JUDGES

SEASONS OF REVIVAL

Judges refers, not only to 12 magistrates, but to 12 revivalists whom God raised up
for Israel again and again in its darkest hours. Judges covers over 300 years from 1395
BC. and 1095 BC. from the death of Joshua to the start of the monarchy in Israel.

The author of Judges is unknown, but from the closing references, there was no king in
Israel (17:6; 18:1; 19:1; 21:25) we conclude Judges was written at the beginning of the
monarchy to show the need for a kingly leadership in Israel.

To the 12 judges mentioned in this book, we add two final ones from I Samuel: Eli and
Samuel, the final judge.

revival! (Judges 1:13:6). See particularly 2:719, the whole book in a nutshell.

II.
THE TWELVE JUDGES (3:716:31) The revivalists God used were, at times,
men and women who were fragile vessels of clay. Their sole resource was the
anointing of the Holy Spirit. But at times they evidenced imperfections and disorders
and even unconquered sin in their lives. Perhaps these biographies are given to us for
our own encouragement and wisdom in this hour

THE KINGS OF ISRAEL
AND JUDAH

I, II KINGS (Originally one book)

COMPLIER: The complier of the work is not named in Scripture. Jewish tradition attributes
the compiling of I, II Kings to Jeremiah.

CONTENTS:

1. I, II Kings covers the history of both Judah and Israel together under Solomons reign
(I Kings 1-11).

2. Also covered is the division between the two southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin under
Rehoboam, Solomons son, and the ten northern tribes of Israel under Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
(I Kings 12-14).

3. Also covered is the history of all the successive kings of Israel up to the time of its captivity to
Assyria in 721 B.C. (through II Kings 15).

4. Also covered is the corresponding history of all the successive kings of Judah up to the time of its
captivity to Babylon in 588 B.C. (through II Kings 25).

5. This history, a time of deep apostasy, sees the rise of the various prophets of God sent to Israel,
and sent to Judah and sent to the surrounding Gentile nations. These prophets begin with Elijah and
Elisha and progress to those others whose writings we now have in the Old Testament canon, the
writings of the major and minor prophets.
