EYE Lighting/high-pressure sodium was the choice for the new
street lighting. Evaluation showed it was the most energy effi-
cient, would dramatically increase light levels, plus eliminate
special disposal procedures needed to meet EPA regulations, a
significant cost savings for our utility.
Another EYE to EYE Perspective

Garland Power & Light | Garland, TX
Over 5,000 EYE Ignitron lamps have been installed
in Garland, 100-watt lamps for resident street lighting
and a combination of 250- and 400-watt lamps for all
other roadways.
The Ignition lamp has a built-in starter, eliminating the
need for a separate starter board and saving us an esti-
mated $50,000 in maintenance stocking expense,
which includes no longer having to maintain an inven-
tory of various replacement boards.
A three-year warranty and 100 percent factory testing
that eliminates out-of-the-box failures were other rea-
sons we selected the EYE Ignitron lamps. Finally, the
EYE lamps meet Federal EPA TLCP test criteria for
non-hazardous waste, this eliminates disposal and
special handling expenses, all major cost savings.
The Police are happy with the new lighting; communi-
ty and officer safety has improved. Lamp disposal
problems have been eliminated and we have so little
system maintenance that we now contract it out.
The switch to Ignitron lamps is a success.
