1. INTRODUCTION

The GE Digital Energy Advanced Power System
TM
(APS
TM
) is a self-contained unit designed to
provide essential (generator backed up power) and critical (UPS conditioned) power to mission
critical facilities. Multiple APS units are connected together to form a highly reliable mission
critical power system. Each APS unit is assembled and tested in the factory before shipment to
the customers site. Once on site, the GE Digital Energy commissioning team will insure the unit
is correctly installed and integrated into the power system.

5. GENERATING MODULE

Stand-by Diesel Generator
The diesel generator set includes all required radiators, ventilation, controls, and exhaust
systems.

Integral 220-gallon fuel tank
A fuel tank is included in the module along with all required valves, fuel pipes and fittings to
connect the system to an external fuel supply system. Fuel tank is designed with 110%
containment.

Dimensions
All dimension given are for the standard design enclosure. Enclosure sizes will change due
to noise rating and enclosure specifications. Roof top fans and other accessories will be
installed at site to keep the shipping height of the enclosure under 12 feet.

6. CONDITIONING MODULE

Integrated Power Switchboard
The Power Switchboard contains draw-out insulated case circuit breakers, insulated bus, and at
least a 100 kaic short circuit rating. In addition, all required PT's, CT's and protective relays will
be provided to allow the generator to parallel to the incoming utility source. Each breaker in the
switchgear will contain a solid-state trip unit that will have the ability to monitor and communicate
breaker status and power values to a remote monitoring system. All breakers are operated by an
internal 24 Vdc station battery system and require no outside sources of control power.

Utility Grade Multifunction Protective Relays
One Multilin 750 relay and one Multilin 489 relay are provided to protect the incoming utility and
generator. Each relay is interfaced to the APS control system to coordinate the overall operation
of the module and system alarm detection. Each Multilin relay includes monitoring and metering
functions that can be viewed by the 40 character vacuum florescent display on the meter. This
information can be communicated to a remote monitoring system using standard Modbus RTU
protocol. All meters are factory wired to the APS ModBus network for use by the customer
remote monitoring system. An additional synchronism check relay (25) is provided to act as an
additional control permissive when paralleling the generator and utility source breakers.
