Delta Air Lines Expands Salt Lake City Hub
As part of a system-wide transformation
plan, Delta Air Lines has recongured
its Salt Lake City hub. The airline will
add about 58 additional ights to the
Salt Lake City schedule. Regional jets will
y 37 of these new ights and 21 ights
will be with mainline service. About 18 of
the 37 regional jet ights will be operated
by Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA).
Several new markets will be added
including: Tampa, Maui, New Orleans,
Ft. Lauderdale, Cabo San Lucas,
Burbank, Lewiston, Austin, El Paso,
Wichita, Little Rock, San Antonio, and
Northwest Arkansas.
The following markets will see increased
frequency: Albuquerque, Bozeman,
Cincinnati, Eugene, Houston, Idaho
Falls, Jackson Hole, JFK, Kalispell,
Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles,
Ontario, Palm
Springs, Phoenix,
Portland, Reno,
San Diego, Santa
Barbara, Seattle,
San Francisco,
San Jose, St. Louis,
Tucson and Tulsa.
The ights will be
melded with the existing schedule and
spread out during the day for efciency
in the air and on the ground.
Terminal One will also be modied. The
bag claim carousels will be replaced and
recongured and the elevator/escalator
system redesigned. In a secondary phase,
the lobby will be extended to the west and
most of the baggage screening equipment
will be moved behind the ticket counters.
Convenience stores will be added to each
terminal that will give passengers a food
option prior to security screening as well
as convenient shopping for other items.
These changes will give those waiting
for passengers more and better space than
building constraints currently allow, says
Mr. Campbell, Passengers will also enjoy
more processing area.
Actual construction will begin the rst
of January and will be done in phases
over the next 15-18 months to keep the
areas operational.

Fall 2004
We welcome this
development with
Delta Air Lines, com-
ments Tim Campbell,
Executive Director
of the Salt Lake City
Department of Airports,
We are pleased to
play a role in their
restructuring plan and
are diligently working
with them to absorb the
increased ights.
The main impact will be some structural
changes to Terminal Two. In the lobby,
plans are underway to widen the mezza-
nine and add two additional security
screening lanes. The elevators and
escalator systems will be recongured to
enhance passenger ow, both ends of the
terminal will be extended and additional
ticket counter space will be added. The
baggage claim system will also undergo a
facelift with new carousels placed to create
more waiting space in the bag claim lobby.
The baggage screening equipment now
in the lobby will be replaced with inline
screening equipment that will be built on
the east end of the terminal.
Some of the gates on Concourse B will
be modied to accommodate regional
jet operations.

Station Wins a Third Triple Crown
Delta Air Lines local station has won the
airlines Triple Crown Award for the
third time in June. The award is presented
for operational excellence and is one of
Deltas highest honors.
Stations with more than 40 scheduled
daily departures compete monthly to
achieve the lowest rate of injuries, no
aircraft damage and the best on-time
performance. The award is given only if
a station has the best record in all three
of these categories during the month.
The Salt Lake City team previously won
the award in November 2002 and August
2003. Despite the heavy summer load
factors, the station led the company with
its June performance.
This prestigious award recognizes
every member of the Salt Lake City team.
Delta employees, our business partners
and the Department of Airports work
together to provide a safe workplace and
a safe and on-time travel experience for
our customers, comments Betty Provolt,
Director of Customer Service for Delta
Air Lines in Salt Lake City.

I
n a series of recent acquisitions,
several paintings have been added to
the airport art collection. Most notably,
is a wall featuring nine oil, acrylic and
mixed media pieces by Utah artists at the
top of Concourse E. Paintings by Chelsea
Bentley, John Collins, Monica Gerszewski,
Margaret Hunt, MLisa Paulsen, Steven
Shefeld and Darrell Thomas are
showcased. This collection of rural scenes
depicts the natural beauty of Utah.
Other new works include acrylic
paintings and prints by local illustrator,
Chris Miles, displayed in the childrens
play area at the top of Concourse B. This
stunning collection is vibrant with color
and imagination.
Paintings by John Collins, Marian Dunn,
Shirley McKay, Steven Shefeld and
Jeanne Hansen now grace the lower B

security screening checkpoint in Terminal
One and in second level ofce areas.

In addition, ve watercolors by
Bevan Chipman of local Sudanese
refugee women are now displayed at
the beginning of the B Concourse.
Sundance has loaned three
Chapungu sculptures to the airport
for a temporary display. These stone
sculptures from Zimbabwe are in glass
cases in the connector between the C

Delta Air Lines Crown Room.
The art collection continually evolves
along with the space and needs of the
airport, comments Russ Pack, We are
particularly pleased with the diversity
and appeal of the new pieces and will be
adding more in the near future.
