CALL 811 BEFORE DIGGING!
Call 811 at least three days before digging even
for small projects like planting shrubs or installing
a fence or mailbox. The operators at PA One Call
will notify the utilities in your area so they can
mark their lines before you dig.
If you do not call, and the underground utility lines
are damaged, you could be held responsible for
all losses, expenses and costs resulting from the
damage and any nes associated with not calling.
According to federal law, anyone who causes
damage to a pipeline must report the damage to
the utility company. If the damage results in a gas
leak, the customer or contractor must immediately
call the 911 emergency telephone number.

Once the lines have been marked, you are not
permitted to use powered equipment within 18
inches to the left or right of the markings. If your
work area conicts with the markings, contact the
utility involved for advice on how to dig without
interfering with the lines.
Be safe! Call before you dig... its the law! WHO CHECKS THE GAS LINES?
Equitable
Gas periodically checks your underground service
lines to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to your
home or business. Using gas detection equipment, we will
check from our main line to the meter or to the outside wall
of your house (whichever is further).
If your meter is located inside your home, our service person
must have access to complete the check. ALWAYS ask to see
their company ID.
If you are not home and your meter is inside, our service
person will leave a card with a telephone number asking you
to make an appointment.
Equitable Gas owns the main line located in the street or
sidewalk, and the service line between the main line and
the curb valve. We are responsible for the maintenance of
both the main line and our service line.
The customer or property owner is responsible for the
service line located between the curb valve and the meter,
as well as the house line that runs from the meter to the
gas appliances. The owner is
responsible for the costs
to repair or replace
these lines.
If You Smell Natural Gas

LEAVE your home immediately.

CALL the Equitable Gas emergency number
from a safe distance such as a neighbors
home. Service personnel will be
dispatched immediately.

WAIT until our representative has inspected
your home and advised that it is safe to enter.

line. Make sure that the plumber you hire shows you a
certication card with a valid expiration date. You can also call
Equitable at 1-800-654-6335 to conrm that your plumber is
certied. Once the repairs are made, the plumber will contact
Equitable to inspect the line and restore service.
House Line and Gas Appliances
The owner or customer will need to have a plumber or heating
contractor repair or replace the house line or gas appliance(s)
that have been tagged by Equitable Gas. Make sure that your
contractor completes and returns the self-addressed, postage-
paid tag. Returning the completed tag is the only way to
certify that the contractor completed the work and
restored gas service.
