Be on the lookout for the Department of Public Works new Rapid Response Unit. Utilizing grant money
from the Department of Conservation, the Public Works Department purchased the 26 foot trailer and
retrofitted it into a Rapid Response Unit that can be deployed at a moments notice.
Complete with light bars, generator, exterior lighting (for night work), an awning for shade, cones, road
closure equipment, trash and recycling containers and a traveling restroom for the crew, this Rapid
Response Unit is equipped to deal with situations such as closing a street due to a major accident or
roadway activity, collecting litter from the public right of way, cleaning up debris from major sections
of the community, the Rapid Response Unit is equipped for it all.
The Unit has already been deployed in a number of
circumstances to provide assistance in the field and
has proved invaluable to crews in the field.
Thanks to the Department of Conservation, the
Citys Fleet Services Section and a graphic design
company, you should be seeing the Rapid Response
Unit soon in a neighborhood near you!
