Out & About
N A S P D
Dianne Burger,
NASPD
President
As your new President I have the chance
to address you through our magazine the
. Since this is my first article, I
would like to take this opportunity to
thank each and every one of you for the
honor of this position and the support I
have already received. We have a great
organization primarily because of all the
very dedicated volunteers that serve as
our board members, committee chairs
and committee members; and I am sure I
will grow to appreciate each of you even
more than I already do.
As I discussed in my first Board of
Directors meeting in San Antonio, we are
very lucky to be in a strong pipe market,
to have our organization in a very sound
financial position and along with all this
we have grown to a record-breaking
number of memberships. What more
could a new President ask for?
With all this in mind we should focus on
being sure that the NASPD is moving in
the right direction. Along those lines we
have formed a new committee, the
Strategic Planning Committee. They met
in San Antonio and have already
proposed some great ideas and will meet
throughout this year to discuss and make

Just a reminder to American citizens. If you
do not have a passport, this is the time to get
one. You will be required to have a passport to
enter Mexico. If you plan to attend our Fall
Conference in Cancun, October 11-13, it
would be a good idea to apply for a passport
now so you dont have to pay extra to rush the
process. Once you have all of your necessary
paperwork and identification, the passport
process takes 6-8 weeks. The airlines also
suggest that you bring another form of
identification in addition to your passport, i.e.
drivers license or birth certificate, as it will
help speed the re-entry process.

improvement.
In addition to
this I believe that it is very important for
us to bring young people into our
industry. With our amazing Training
Seminars and some of the new young faces
we have recently seen at our meetings, it
appears we are starting to achieve this.
Our upcoming Summer Conference in
Washington D.C.is really shaping up and
should make for a wonderful time in our
nations capital. Politics have always been
an intriguing issue with me but
something I never felt passionate about;
with this visit I am sure we will all get an
up-close and personal view.
See ya there!

Our Summer Conference in Washington
D.C. is an exciting program filled with high
ranking political officials, industry experts,
a private tour of the White House, a mock
presidential election, and much more. We
could not have pulled off this program if it
were not for the hard work of John Mocker,
Mike Evans and Don Bohach, each of
whom were personally responsible for

speakers on our program. In particular, John
Mocker has called in more favors on our
behalf than I can count, in a town where
favors are a valuable currency.
Im thrilled to see how many members are
bringing spouses and children for this rare
opportunity to see our nations capitol from
the good seats.
The Association has continued to grow and
prosper under the hard work and tutelage of
our committed leadership. As many of you
know, Greg Semmel has handed over the
gavel to Dianne Burger, our new President.
We welcome her new ideas and energy as
we thank Greg for all he has done. In
addition to our organizations head, each of
our committee chairmen, officers and board
members have made the NASPD what it is
today and should all take credit for our
successes.
I hope you have marked your calendar for
our upcoming meetings in Cancun this
October and Las Vegas in February/March
of 2008. We look forward to seeing you
there.
