DELSHIRE THREE-PEATS
EXCELLENT RATING

Congratulations to the students and staff of Delshire Elementary! This is the
third year that Ohio has used the State Report Card to rate individual schools, and
Delshire once again received the highest rating. This honor is a tribute to the instruc-
tional excellence of our staff, the support of our parents, and the hard work and dili-
gence of our students. If you would like a copy of the entire report card, stop in the
office or log on to
http://www.ode.state.oh.us/reportcard
.

At the end of last year we introduced our Character Counts program, and
the staff quickly noticed a positive change in our students behavior. Our word of
the month for September is RESPECT, and weve had a lot of fun with the stu-
dents doing their rendition of Aretha Franklins #1 hit from the 60s. Our focus with
the students has been:

Respect Yourself
Respect Your Neighbor
Respect Your Environment

What better way to show respect for your neighbor than Operation
Katrina. Last week we collected enough goods to fill two vans, and the staff
matched the students donations to raise a grand total of $1,430. I was so impressed
with the support that the Delshire community demonstrated last week for the victims
of hurricane Katrina. I know you wont read about this on the state report card, but
this is yet another example of why Delshire is an excellent school!

Thanks for listening and caring,

PTA Presidents Message
The other day I received a piece of mail. I think this has been the most exciting
mail I have received in a long time. It stated: October 1
st
is Worldwide Day of
Play. For those of you who receive the Nickelodeon channel, Nickelodeon will go
off the air for 3 hours to encourage kids to get up and get active. I sincerely
hope that parents will encourage their kids to participate. Even better parents,
get up and spend some of this day and, perhaps, a little of everyday doing activi-
ties and playing games with your kids. Take this opportunity to talk to your kids.
Find out what they are doing in school; what games they played at recess; or take
some time and teach them some games you played when you were a kid. We are so
busy running our kids to sports and other activities, we forget to take time to be
a family or for kids to be a kid. We need to get back to some of the basic things
in life.
I hear all the time, Times have changed; things are different now. Yes, that
may be true, but its because we are letting it happen. Stand up and take back
your family! Help your kids to have fun and grow up loving life. The world will be
a much happier place.
Sincerely,

Sissy Galbraith
Delshire PTA President
Presidential Thank Yous:
(Be a role model for your child)

To all the parents and staff who have joined our PTA thorough our member-
ship drive.

Meet Your Staff and Teachers
By: Paige Tedesco

Every year we see some new faces around our school so I decided to start at the top and go from
there. This month we are meeting our new Assistant Principal, Alyssa Adkins. Some of you may already
know Mrs. Adkins from her fourth grade teaching position. For those of us who have not had the op-
portunity to meet her while she was teaching, I thought it might be nice to find out a little more about
our new Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Adkins is married to husband, Carl, who is from Columbus and still a huge Ohio State fan. She
has a ten month old son, Benjamin, and for those of you who have not seen her recently, she is pregnant
and due January 25
th
with her second child. She is from the Sharonville area, where her parents still
live, and is a graduate of Princeton High School. Her college days were spent at Xavier University
where she earned her bachelors degree in Elementary Education and also her Masters Degree in Ele-
mentary Administration. Before arriving at Delshire, Mrs. Adkins taught for one year in the Wyoming
School District. She then taught third grade at Delshire for one year before moving to the fourth
grade, where she taught for two years.

Since she didnt spend a long time in the classroom, I asked her why make the switch to administra-
tion. Her answer was simple, she wanted to be able to reach and influence not just one classroom, but
an entire school. She realized that being in Administration was what she really wanted to do while at-
tending Xavier University. After completing her Bachelors Degree and earning her Teaching Certifi-
cate, she realized that she loved going to school and being in the classroom. That is why she decided to
go on to earn her Masters Degree. She respected how her professors in college taught others how to
become better teachers, and wanted to do the same and by being a principal.

Even though she loves her new position at Delshire, she
