SALARY: $4,977 - $6,051 (approximate monthly salary)

THE POSITION: This position, under direction, performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance and
repair of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission lines. Duties include, but are not
limited to the following: constructs overhead sub-transmission and distribution lines; works with energized
primary lines and equipment using hot sticks and other safety apparatus; digs holes, pours foundations and
installs wood and steel poles; digs and backfills trenches; installs conduits, cables, vaults and pad-mounted and
submersible equipment; performs testing, phasing and energization of new and reconstructed circuits.

NOTE: Standard working hours may vary and this position is subject to emergency call back.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Methods, materials, and equipment used in electric distribution and transmission line
construction; hazards and safety practices of high voltage electrical work; basic rigging principles; use and
application of hot line tools; all single-phase and three-phase transformer banks and capacitor bank
connections; principles of electrical theory; applicable electrical codes (G.O. 95 and 128).

Ability to: Use hot sticks in a safe and effective manner; string wire and cable on overhead and underground
systems; troubleshoot and correct electric service problems; lay out, measure, cut, install and splice cable and
grounds in underground residential and light commercial systems; install cross arms, insulators, supports and
other hardware on overhead systems; climb metal and wood poles using hooks and safety straps; perform work
at heights above the ground; follow written and oral instructions.

Typical ways to acquire the required skills and knowledges are listed below:

Experience: Completion of a recognized four-year lineman/linewoman apprenticeship including experience
climbing and working on energized high voltage electrical systems using hot sticks. Possession of Journey
level lineman/linewoman status obtained as follows: three and one-half (3 1/2) years training/experience in line
work and successful completion of the journey level lineman/linewoman examination administered by the
I.B.E.W. or equivalent; or a minimum five (5) years experience in line work and successful petitioning for
journey level lineman/linewoman status with I.B.E.W.; or Certification from California-Nevada Joint
Apprenticeship Committee that applicant has passed the apprenticeship and examination for journey level
lineman/linewoman; or possession of journey level lineman/linewoman status granted by the I.B.E.W. or
equivalent.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid California driver's license (class C). Possession of a
valid California driver's license (class A) issued from the Department of Motor Vehicles within 12 months of
appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process is tentative. Applicants will be notified if changes are made.

Evaluation of Qualifications: Applications will be screened to determine if applicants meet the minimum
qualifications as outlined in the job announcement.

Performance Examination: A performance examination may be used to assess candidates experience level and
possession of the required knowledges and abilities, including the ability to perform overhead and underground
line construction and maintenance.
