SECTION: 1505.3, VENTILATION OF RAFTER SPACES

Enclosed rafter spaces, formed where ceilings are applied directly to the underside of roof rafters shall be
ventilated. The ventilated air space shall be a minimum of 1 ½ inches deep; bounded by the rafters on
each side, the insulation below and the roof sheating above. Air shall enter the lower end of the rafter
space via holes in the freeze blocks, soffit, etc., and shall exhaust into an attic space or exterior vent at the
upper end of the rafter space. Rafters may be notched for cross ventilation provided the notches and
associated saw-blade over-cuts do not affect the structural integrity of the rafters.

CONDUCTORS ENTERING CABINETS OR CUTOUT BOXES

Conductors entering cabinets or cutout boxes shall be protected from abrasion and shall comply with (c)
below.

(a) Openings to be closed. Openings through which conductors enter shall be adequately closed.

(b) Not applicable to cables.

(c) Cables. Where cable is used, each cable shall be secured to the cabinet or cutout box. Main panels,
subpanels, junction boxes, and cutout boxes having NM, SE cable, etc., shall be dispersed through all
available knock out and clamped to cabinet. Grounding electrode conductor shall also be clamped to
enclosure.

ARTICLE: 336-15

SUPPORTS Non metallic-sheathed cable shall be secured by staples, cable ties, straps, or similar fittings
so designed and installed as not to damage the cable. The 1994 NEC amended Article 336-15 to add
cable ties as an alternative material for securing non-metallic sheathed cable. The cable tie is required to
rap once completely around the cable in order to secure the cables in place.

WATER TESTING SANITARY DRAINAGE The following are approved methods of water testing drainage
and vent systems in residential construction:

1. For ground plumbing and underfloor plumbing inspections, the system shall be tested with a minimum 8
foot head above the top of the slab form-board or subfloor, respectively.

2. For frame inspection, the system shall be tested to a level above the highest tub-overflow.

SECTION: 2602.4 and 2602.4.4:

FOAM PLASTIC INSULATION USED FOR SIDING AND STUCCO BACKER BOARD

The interior of the building shall be separated from foam plastic insulation by an approved thermal barrier
having an index of 15.

The interior of the building includes the garage, storage areas, and accessible attics.

Exterior walls with foam-insulation backer-boards under stucco and other types of siding have been
permitted to use gypsum board on the interior wall face to serve as the required thermal barrier.

Garage walls sheathed with foam insulation must be finished with gypsum board on the interior or have a
thermal barrier with an index of 15 separating the garage space from the foam.

Accessible attics (attics with access openings) with foam-insulation backer-board on end walls must have
the foam covered with 3 ½ inch thick fiber insulation batt or one of the materials listed in section 2602.4.4.
