Colorado State University

State University Chamber Series
continues with a faculty trio presenting An Evening of Brass on Sunday, April 15
th
at 7:30 p.m. in the Casavant
Concert Hall, Music Building 2
nd
Floor on the CSU Oval in Fort Collins.

The Brass Faculty trio of Matt Scheffelman, horn; Gregory Harper, trombone; and David Shaner, trumpet perform
an enjoyable program featuring pieces with French influence from lyric-driven chanson, to New Orleans jazz, to
music for Parisian music halls.

The program includes three pieces by 16
th
century French composer Josquin Deprez who dominated the musical
world of his time because of his singular ability to bring together the many streams of contemporary musical
practice. All three pieces are part of his Chanson (lyric-driven song) collection.

The evening continues with Eugene Bozzas New Orleans, a piece written for French bass trombonist Paul
Bernard. The influence of the jazz style is unmistakable, and the imagery of the emotional extremes of New
Orleans is vividly evoked by the music.

The program also includes Sonata for Horn, Trumpet and Trombone by Francis Poulenc. Poulenc composed
music in all major genres and is known for creating melodies appropriate for Parisian music halls.

Tickets are $4 for CSU students and $7 for the general public, plus a small campus box office service charge.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 970-491-4TIX or at www.csutix.com. Visa and MasterCard accepted.
Performances are popular and advance purchase is highly recommended.
